Holcombe Grammar School is celebrating the awarding of our RRSA Silver Award: Rights Aware. The school was recently assessed and showed strong evidence that we are explicitly embedding the UN Convention on the Rights of the Child in our policies, practices and culture and that we are promoting knowledge and understanding of the Convention throughout our school community. We began this journey in 2021 and we are now seeing the positive impact of these actions on students, staff, and on the school’s ethos, practice and environment. Our students are proud to be Holcombe students and this was made clear when several described their community as a place where everyone feels welcome and are able to express themselves through many clubs and community events such as Black History Month, LGBTQIA+Month, Mental Health Week and charity events. Our young people are beginning to see themselves as Rights Respecting Citizens and advocates for fairness and children’s rights.
This award is a community effort but we pride ourselves in being ambassadors in the TSAT Trust; this was recognised by the assessor who acknowledged that we have leant our expertise to other schools within the trust who are now on their journey towards Gold, having too recently achieved Silver.
