Students and staff at Holcombe Grammar School, located on Letchworth Avenue and part of Thinking Schools Academy Trust, are celebrating today as they receive their GCSE grades.
This year, despite the challenges caused by the coronavirus, students have excelled, and the academy is rejoicing in a year of fantastic results for students.
The academy saw particular success in subjects including Chemistry, Mathematics, Photography, Media Studies, Physical Education, Physics, RS.
More than 40% of students achieved a 7-9 in Art, Photography, Biology, Business Studies, Chemistry, Computer Science, DT, English Language, French, Geography, Maths, Media Studies, Music, PE, Physics, RS and Spanish.
There are also some standout individual performances. These include:
Due to the pandemic, the Government made the decision that this year, young people’s grades would be determined by teachers, based on work they had produced throughout their courses. These grades were then moderated and assessed by external exam boards who awarded the final grades.
Collecting his GCSE results today, Markus Sadler, said:
“I feel delighted with my results today and I’m extremely thankful to my teachers for giving me so much support both during lockdown and when we returned to school. I am now really excited to be starting my A levels in September.”
Lee Preston Headteacher at Holcombe Grammar School said:
“I am incredibly proud of all of our students as they receive their GCSE grades today. They have worked so hard and faced all the challenges of the pandemic in their stride. To see them receive the grades they deserve today and be able to progress onto their next steps, for the majority into our 6th form, is fantastic.
“We are excited to see what the future holds for them whether here or elsewhere, and would like to say a huge thank you to all our students, parents, carers, staff and local community for your support and encouragement.”
