Medway Victory Sea Cadets was set up in 2018. This unit is available to all students at The Victory Academy, Holcombe Grammar School and Rochester Grammar School and Years 5 and 6 of local schools. At present, we have 50+ cadets from Year 7, 8, 9, 10, 11, and Year 12 students who are now learning and experiencing the Sea Cadet Corps and all that it offers.

What to expect

At Medway Victory we aim to give young people an experience that will help them grow into the individuals they want to be in a safe and friendly environment. Through various activities and adventures, we learn teamwork, respect, loyalty, self-confidence, commitment, self-discipline, honesty and how to be the best version of ourselves.

As well as the Sea Cadet Corps Training plan there are Activities including: Sailing, canoeing, paddle boarding ,rowing, archery, shooting, camping, and adventurous training with expedition training. We learn drill, armed drill and piping, seamanship, music such as drumming and marching band. We also learn first aid, engineering, catering and stewarding. Many of these learnings can lead to a BTEC level 1 and level 2 qualification. Duke of Edinburgh Bronze Silver and Gold Awards too.

You will be required to attend Unit regularly every week and can chose whether to join in with all the extra activities at weekends and holidays.

Training will lead to becoming a fully-fledged cadet, and then progressing through the ranks all the way to Petty Officer cadet all within the sea cadet promise:

“I promise to serve my God, my King, My Country and the Sea Cadet Corps and to obey the orders of my superior Officers. I will be proud of my uniform and be smart and seaman like in wearing it and always do my duty.”

When and where?

Cadets are expected to regularly attend the unit on Monday or Thursday at 18:45-21:15 depending on their rank. Held at The Victory Academy in smart, tidy Cadet uniform provided for you, and to respect all the volunteer staff whilst attending and learning. Many external courses are available to cadets offering residential courses in sailing, engineering music and many other great opportunities. Often these are held residential on HMS Cavalier at the Chatham Dockyard.

Volunteering

We also offer a great path for adult volunteers and welcome people who have time to commit to the Unit on a regular basis or if you have Sea Cadet experience or qualifications in any of the above activities we would love to hear from you. As our Unit grows we also require more adult volunteers.

Sea Cadets Summer

Over the course of the year, we have been out boating, gaining great experience on the water and qualifications too at Royal Docks boating station also at Basin 2 in Chatham.

Rowing – gaining taster, Competent Crew and supervised Coxswain.

Sailing – Level 1, Level 2 and Level 3.

Paddle sport – Start, Discover and Explore awards.

Windsurfing – Level 1 and Level 2

Paddle boarding- Basic

Through all of these great memories and experiences have been gained. We are looking forward to another year of learning, competitions, action and adventure and welcoming new recruits.
